SAFe Release Train Engineer (RTE) – what will you learn?

In this 3-day SAFe Release Train Engineer (RTE) training you will gain an in-depth understanding of the role and responsibilities of a Release Train Engineer (RTE) in the SAFe enterprise. The Release Train Engineer (RTE) training targets project and program managers who want to fulfill the RTE role in agile organizations as well as Agile change agents and seasoned Scrum Masters who wish to progress in their career as a Release Train Engineer (RTE). What is an Agile Release Train (ART)?

An Agile Release Train (ART) is a long-lived team of Agile teams, which - along with other stakeholders - develops and delivers solutions incrementally, using a series of fixed-length iterations within a Program Increment (PI) timebox. The Agile Release Train (ART) aligns teams to a common business and technology mission. Each Agile Release Train (ART) is a virtual organization of 50 to 125 people that plans, commits, and executes together. Agile Release Trains (ARTs) are organized around the enterprise's value streams and exist solely to realize the promise of that value by building solutions that deliver benefits to the end users.

What is a Program Increment (PI)?

A Program Increment (PI) is a timebox during which an Agile Release Train (ART) delivers incremental value in the form of working and tested software and systems. Program Increments (PIs) typically last for 8 to 12 weeks. The most common pattern for a Program Increment (PI) is 4 development iterations, followed by an Innovation and Planning (IP) iteration. A Program Increment (PI) is to an Agile Release Train (ART) what an iteration is to an Agile Team. It is a fixed timebox for building and validating a full system increment, demonstrating value, and getting fast feedback.

SAFe Release Train Engineer (RTE) certification – eligibility criteria

Attending this 3-day Release Train Engineer (RTE) training is an important step towards passing the RTE certification. The RTE certification exam requires in-depth preparation and this training will give you the guidance, courseware and support needed to successfully pass the RTE exam. When you intend to take the SAFe Release Train Engineer (RTE) certification exam, you have to hold at least one current SAFe certification and have launched or participated in at least one Agile Release Train (ART) and one Program Increment (PI).

SAFe Release Train Engineer (RTE) – about the exam

The official SAFe 4.5 Release Train Engineer (RTE) exam is a multiple-choice, web-based (single-browser), closed book, and timed exam. You have 2 hours to complete the RTE exam, which consists of 60 complex questions. The passing score is 67%. The RTE exam is included in the fee of the training if the RTE exam is taken within 30 days after the Release Train Engineer (RTE) training.

SAFe Release Train Engineer (RTE) exam – retake

Should you fail the Release Train Engineer (RTE) exam the first time, the second RTE exam attempt can be made immediately after the first attempt. The third RTE exam attempt requires a 10-day wait period and the fourth attempt a 30-day wait period. Each retake costs $ 50,- (approx. € 45).

SAFe Release Train Engineer (RTE) certification – annual renewal

The SAFe Release Train Engineer (RTE) certificate expires one year from the date the RTE certification was earned. The renewal fee is $ 295 (approx. € 250). The renewal fee for the Release Train Engineer (RTE) certification is included in the SAFe 4.5 Program Consultant (SPC) renewal fee (if your SPC certification is up-to-date).

SAFe Release Train Engineer (RTE) – documentation

You will receive the Release Train Engineer (RTE) attendee workbook, and access to the SAFe 4.5 Release Train Engineer (RTE) exam. In order to be optimally prepared for the RTE exam you will receive a study guide, a practice test and a sample test. You will receive a free 1-year membership to Scaled Agile, with access to members-only resources such as webinars, videos, workbooks, guidance presentations, and advance notice of upcoming SAFe products.

Fee / Registration

The fee for the 3-day SAFe 4.5 Release Train Engineer (RTE) training and certification is € 2,695 (VAT excl.) per person. The fee includes full documentation, all lunches and coffee/tea. The first attempt for the RTE exam is included in the fee if the RTE exam is taken within 30 days after the SAFe Release Train Engineer (RTE) training.

Terms and conditions
Delegates may be substituted until the first day of the SAFe 4.5 Release Train Engineer (RTE) training without further cost, provided notice is given in writing and the participant meets the admission requirements. Delegates requesting a transfer to a later RTE training date - if possible - may do so without incurring penalty fees, provided the request is received in writing at least 8 weeks before the start date of the SAFe 4.5 Release Train Engineer (RTE) training.

-For cancellations up to 8 weeks before the start of the SAFe 4.5 Release Train Engineer (RTE) training, we will charge € 175,- for administration costs.
-For cancellations between 8 and 6 weeks before the start of the RTE training, we will charge 50% of the training fee.
-For cancellations between 6 and 3 weeks before the start of the RTE training, we will charge 75% of the training fee.
-For cancellations within 3 weeks before the start of the RTE training, we will charge 100% of the training fee.
All cancellations must be received in writing.

Payment
Payment for training fees must be received within 30 days of the invoice date, though always before the start of the SAFe 4.5 Release Train Engineer (RTE) training.
